Picture of the Week Nijo Castle, Kyoto, Japan

Nijo Castle is one of the famous sights of Kyoto. The Castle was built in 1603 as the Kyoto residence of the Tokugawa Shoguns.

The castle area has several gardens and groves of cherry and ume trees.

This picture is of the Ninomaru garden which has a large pond with three islands and features numerous carefully placed stones and topiary pine trees.

    I love the green colours of the trees and the water. I`d love to build a Japanese Garden in my backyard some day.

  8. The Nijo Castle is a symbol of the power of the Tokugawa Shogunate. Its construction was ordered by the first Tokugawa Shogun, Ieyasu, in 1603. Nijo Castle is very nice destination to visit with family and friends.
