This year’s cherry blossom forecast is later than previous years with most places in Japan expecting a late March blooming date. This is most likely due to the colder weather experienced this year in Japan.
The best time for viewing the cherry blossoms varies between a few days to a few weeks from the first bloom, so don’t leave it too late to see the beautiful blossoms.
I have created a table below for the major places in Japan with the estimate start date and peak bloom of the cherry blossoms.
Information from the Japan Weather Association
Thanks for the information.
ReplyDeleteSakura or cherry blossoms can last only for about a week, although we have some late blooming species in Kyoto including weeping cherry.
Please visit Japan and enjoy hanami or blossom viewing.
Thank you Machi's Taxi, They only last for a short time so you have to get out quick to see them. Can you recommend any good spots in Kyoto to see the famous cherry blossoms?
DeleteI can recommend many places such as Nijo-castle, Heian Shrine, and Haradanien. I think, however, important thing is to visit places in right timing. In another words, go to the most beautiful place at the time when you visit Kyoto.
DeletePlease ask your hotel staff, concierge, or information center (in Kyoto station) where to visit in order to have hanami or cherry blossom viewing.
Thanks Machi's Taxi for the great tips about Kyoto :)
DeleteWe're waiting, we're waiting, impatiently ... Every morning I check our neighbourhood trees, and every morning they tell me no, not yet, chotto matte kudasai! ^^
ReplyDeleteThanks Rurousha, Seems like we have all been waiting for so long but they should be very soon. Hearing word out of Nagoya and Tokyo that they are starting to open up :)
DeleteGreat post! As a fellow Aussie (having just recently moved to Osaka) I was wondering when the best time would be. Many Thanks :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Jamie, Always good to hear from a fellow Aussie and you have picked a great place to move to in Osaka. Hope you enjoy the cherry blossoms :)
DeleteThankyou for this info! I just recently went to Japan for the first time but it was too cold and the sakuras did not start blooming yet. I am planning for my next trip in Japan during the cherry blossom season!
ReplyDeleteThanks Joanna, Yes, it has been colder than usual this year and a late start to spring. The best time for the cherry blossoms is usually late March to early April.
DeleteThis is great information for those intending to travel to Japan soon and wish to see the blossoms. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Lina, I tried to summarize the main details from the Japan Weather Association and present it in a easy to read format :)
DeleteViewing the sakura is one of my dreams.
ReplyDeleteThanks Lisa, It is a must see thing and hope you dreams come true some day :)
DeleteAs early as this in Tokyo? This year? Wow!! I've got my sakura antenna on (just eyes really) and will post as I find them.
ReplyDeleteThanks StarBrooke, Yes, they are already in bloom and I am seeing many great pictures. You got to be quick as peak bloom will be soon and it will be all over in a flash.
