Fashion for Japan is the latest fund raiser organized to help Japan. Supermodel Naomi Campbell is at the Cannes Film Festival to stage a Fashion for Relief show in aid of the earthquake and tsunami victims in Japan.

Campbell has enlisted her A-list friends for the show, which will be held tonight at the historic Forkville market in Cannes. Designers have donated red carpet dresses for the show, while Dolce & Gabbana have made charity T-shirts. The event will be followed by an auction, which includes artworks by Tracey Emin and Dennis Hopper, and a customised Lotus Évora. It is being staged in collaboration with Vogue Italia and all funds raised will go to the Japanese Red Cross.

The supermodel said she was horrified by the images of the disaster and immediately resolved to help Japan. She said "The destruction caused by the earthquake is completely heartbreaking, it's so hard to even begin to comprehend the tragic loss the people of Japan are coping with. I felt very passionate to try and help in whatever way possible, to do our part and to support Japan at this time. I hope that the money raised from Fashion For Relief in Cannes will support those who need it most."

Jet Coaster Love by Kara

Jet Coaster Love by Kara was the number 1 song on the Japanese Oricon music charts last week. Who is Kara do you ask? Kara is a girl group from Korea formed in 2007. The current five-member band made their debut in Japan in 2010 and by the end of the year was dubbed as Japan’s #1 New Artist of 2010 by Oricon. The group also released their first Japanese album, Girl’s Talk.

Jet Coaster Love is their 3rd single in Japan and was released on April 6th. It is classic J-Pop and very upbeat and uplifting. A good pick me up after a bad day.

All the proceeds from the single will be donated to Japan’s natural disaster relief aid.

The Black Eyed Peas Video for Japan

The Black Eyed Peas have dedicated their latest single, ‘Just Can’t Get Enough’ music video to the victims of Japan’s tragic earthquake and tsunami. The Black Eyed Peas filmed the video in Japan a week before the earthquake and tsunami that struck. Tokyo’s nightlife is heavily featured with lots of neon lights, the city’s coolest and hottest peeps living it up in the clubs and on the streets.

The video begins with a message from the group:

“This video was filmed in Japan one week before the earthquake and tsunami. Our thoughts and prayers go out to all the people of Japan. We love you.”

At the end of the clip, The Black Eyed Peas provide info on how to support the Red Cross relief efforts in Japan.

Stonefield

One of my favourite bands at the moment is an all girl group from the Macedon Rangers in country Victoria called Stonefield. Stonefield feature four sisters aged from 12 to 20 and play rock influenced by artists from the late 60s to early 70s. The girls grew up on a diet of Frank Zappa, Led Zeppelin and Jimi Hendrix.

They have won various awards including the recent TRIPLE J Unearthed competition and have been selected to play Glastonbury (youngest Australian band ever to play) and the Great Escape festivals in the UK. In Australia Stonefield will be playing the St Kilda Festival on Sunday, February 13th.

Stonefield recently released their debut EP called Through the Clover, which channels Zappa, Zeppelin and 70s soul. It is must listen. Check out the video below.

The Japanese Fashion Industry Popular Brands

The Japanese street fashion is known for its mix-match of different styles and genres, and as such there is no single sought after brand that can consistently appeal to all fashion groups. The three cornerstone brands are often said to be Issey Miyake, Yohji Yamamoto and Rei Kawakubo. It wasn`t until the early 1990s that the industry saw a blooming emergence of street fashion brands such as A Bathing Ape, Evisu, and Uniqlo. Japan is also well known for its consumption of foreign luxury brands such as Burberry, Louis Vuitton , Gucci and Prada. Recently, Abercrombie & Fitch has become popular among aspiring American preppy Japanese teen.

The stereotypical bosozoku look is often portrayed and even caricatured in many forms of Japanese media such as anime, manga and films. The typical bosozuku member is often depicted in a uniform consisting of a jumpsuit and a type of military issue over-coat with kanji slogans. These are usually worn open, with no shirt underneath, showing off bandaged torsos and matching baggy pants tucked inside tall boots.
