This picture is of the Memorial Cenotaph, which is near the center of the park. It is a concrete, saddle shaped monument that covers a cenotaph holding the names of all the people killed by the bomb. The arch shape represents a shelter for the souls of the victims. If you look carefully through the monument you can see the Atomic Bomb Dome in the background.

ReplyDeleteThe Atomic Bomb Dome is a sad reminder of the tragic loss of many, many lives and why weapons of mass destruction should never ever be allowed to be built and used.
I've visited the Peace Park once, and would love to visit it again someday.
Thank you A and Y Ikeda and lina. It is one of my favourite pictures from Japan and is a sad reminder of what happened in Hiroshima, but worth visiting to reflect and see how Hiroshima has recovered from past tragedy.
